Twenty-six restaurants in Malaga province are currently showcasing the work of a selection of local fashion designers. The Moda con Gusto initiative, which continues until 16 May, has been organised by SUR and sponsored by the provincial authority - Diputación - and the fashion brand Málaga de Moda.
Juan Carlos Maldonado, vice-president of the provincial government, described the project as a "necessary activity".
"In this way we will achieve the perfect communion between fashion and gastronomy," he said at the launch at the end of last week.
Antonio González, the director general of SUR publishers Prensa Malagueña, presented the campaign at one of the 26 restaurants taking part in the initiative, the Michelin-starred José Carlos García in Muelle Uno.
At one of the tables a mannequin displayed a wedding dress from the latest collection by local designer Rafael Urquízar, which was supposed to come out in March 2020 but was delayed due to the pandemic.
"The fashion industry has come to a standstill," said Urquízar. "The only hope we have is that people don't forget about us, which is why we give our thanks to initiatives such as this one that support fashion."
A design by one of 26 local labels will be on display at each of the participating restaurants until 16 May. As well as Urquízar, the designers include Rocío Bellido, Jesús Segado, Ángel Palazuelos, Lucy Clip, Pilar Arregui, Kai and Koa, Astrid Hohle Moda Flamenca and Teressa Ninú, among others.
