March this year marks the fourth anniversary since the Caminito del Rey reopened to the public after twelve months of works. The success of the project cannot be denied so the Diputación provincial authority has set aside funds in this year's budget for the expansion of the route.
Specifically, six million euros are to be set aside for the extension of the Caminito del Rey itself and for actions in the four surrounding municipalities that form part of the European Project of the Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy (DUSI): Álora, Antequera, Ardales and Valle de Abdalajís.
Investment at provincial level will rise from 57 million euros last year to 70 million euros for the year that has just begun. Of that amount, 50 million euros will be used directly in the municipalities with improvements to basic infrastructure, more parks and green areas and new social, cultural and recreational facilities.
Another ten million will be used to repair roads.
