Luis Fonsi shot to world fame last year after the release of 'Despacito', his wildly successful reggaeton track. Little known, however, is the Puerto Rican singer's charity work, for which he will be officially recognised in Marbella on 29 July.
As part of the seventh edition of the Global Gift Gala, held at the Gran Meliá Hotel, Fonsi will receive the Philanthropist award, namely for his contribution towards the recovery effort in Puerto Rico and Dominica after the devastation wreaked by Hurricane María late last year, as well as his donations to the cancer unit at St Jude's Hospital (Memphis, US).
Given that the honouree will be performing at Marbella's Starlite festival three days prior to the ceremony, some are hoping that he will arrive to receive the award in person.
