Officers from Gibraltar's Special Branch arrested two Albanians at the airport on 20 February, following suspicions over flights which had been booked to the UK. They were detained before boarding a flight to Manchester. One of the men, aged 50, was using a falsified Greek ID document and the other, aged 24, had a fake French passport.

As citizens of a country for which a visa is required to enter Gibraltar, they were detained for being there without valid authority, in contravention of the Immigration, Asylum & Refugee Act, and were later charged with possessing fake documents and immigration offences.

Spanish police also arrested two men from La Línea for facilitating illegal immigration.
