A Gibraltarian lawyer, who is the daughter of former chief minister Sir Joshua Hassan, has been appointed deputy mayor of Jerusalem after serving as a member of Jerusalem City Council since May last year.
In the past, Fleur Hassan-Nahoum has been a campaign director for the World Jewish Relief humanitarian agency and, as a strong supporter of women's rights, she has spoken out in the past about the need for women in Jerusalem to have greater political representation.
With regard to her appointment as deputy mayor, Mrs Hassan-Nahoum, whose sister is an independent MP in Gibraltar, posted on Twitter that she will work hard for the good of Jerusalem, our eternal capital.
