Renowned Malaga flamenco dancer Susana Lupiáñez (stage name La Lupi) will perform in the show Épicus at the Soho CaixaBank Theatre in Malaga on 25 April as part of an annual flamenco cycle running from 23 April to 2 May.

Épicus, which was postponed by a year due to the pandemic, is flamenco without artifice, distinguished by its minimal scenography.

It came into being, explains La Lupi, during the long days of "introspection" brought on by the first lockdown and represents a throwback to her past, as she will perform some of her most "symbolic" and celebrated pieces.

"I thought that before going forwards, I still had to work on the path I had paved over the years, on things that I had forgotten and needed to refresh," she said.

The show encompasses a variety of flamenco styles that take the spectators on a journey through La Lupi's career, including verdiales, also known as Malaga fandangos, and festive cantiñas. It ends with a taranto, a palo that made a great impression on La Lupi when she saw it being performed in Madrid in the 90s.

She is joined on stage by dancers Marina Perea and Sara Carnero, singers Alfredo Tejada and Miguel Ortega and guitarists Óscar Lago and Curro de María - the latter her inseparable career and life partner.

Épicus starts at 7pm and runs for approximately 95 minutes. Tickets are available from 25 euros and can be bought on the theatre's website (https://teatrodelsoho.com/teatro/).
