Father Louis Darrant from St George's Church in Malaga is preparing to lead a group of pilgrims on the Caminito del Rey on Saturday 7 November. The theme of the day is 'Friends above and friends below', which the priest hopes will give the pilgrims the chance to reflect on the significance of the Christian festival of All Saints.
The allocated time to begin the Caminito is 10.45am from Ardales, and the group will meet at 10.30 for the traditional rite of the Blessing of Pilgrims.
Father Louis, who was appointed as chaplain of the church earlier this year, is asking each pilgrim to try to raise 100 euros in sponsorship to support chaplaincy funds. "Many people from both a faith and secular background are rediscovering pilgrimage as something which promotes both reflection and emotional well-being," Father Louis explained.
The adventurous priest has also begun preparations for a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela next year. For more information about how to register for either pilgrimage, call 630909131.
