The Russian Museum

The two temporary exhibitions currently held at the museum are Rompiendo el silencio. El cine mudo en Rusia and Andrèi Tarkovsky. Maestro del Espacio. The cinema has for for decades been a way for attracting audiences, either indoctrination or for recreational purposes. Russian silent films have become universal icons over time. The second exhibition is about Andrèi Tarkovsky, one of the most influential Russian artists of the 20th century. He was the forerunner of innovative techniques in the cinema of the time, refining editing to make films more dynamic.

Centro Pompidou

The semi-permanent exhibition is entitled De Miró a Barceló. Un siglo de arte español. Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí and Luis Buñuel were precursors of new ways of seeing and creating and their legacy still lives on. This chronological journey through a century of Spanish art shows that the generation of contemporary artists has kept alive the spirit of the avant-garde with extraordinary energy.

Centro de Arte Contemporáneo

The CAC Málaga reopened with a new exhibition called Opus Nigrum by the Mallorca artist Pep Girbent. The display includes drawings and paintings inspired by film clips.

Thyssen Museum

During a brief stay in a sanatorium, Henri Toulouse - Lautrec created 39 drawings in crayon about the circus. These works were conserved after his death by his friend Maurice Joyant and reproduced in two stages using a photographic technique in 1905 and 1931. The reproductions were bound in two folders entitled Au Cirque. Thirty-nine prints of these draweings are on display in the museum until 7 June. The museum also has a permanent exhibition of paintings by famous artists.

My Body, My Archive

The Tate Modern. Congolese choreographer and dance artist Faustin Linyekula’s My Body, My Archive was due to perform at the Tate.

Linyekula was due to perform in the Tanks at Tate Modern at the end of March, as part of 2020’s BMW Tate Live Exhibition: Our Bodies, Our Archives when it was cancelled. Linyekula worked with the collaborators to create a site-specific piece performed to camera. https://www.tate.org.uk/

We Will Walk- Art and Resistance in the American South

Turner Contemporary. The Turner Contemporary has created a virtual tour of its ground-breaking exhibition We Will Walk – Art and Resistance in the American South. It is available to view for free on YouTube.

The exhibition is the first of its kind in the UK to reveal the little-known art shaped by the American Civil Rights movement of the 1950s and 60s. We Will Walk brings together sculptures, paintings, quilts and installations by more than 20 African American artists from Alabama and the Deep South. New Focus and Bradford College. Until 31 May, Forget-me-not shares intergenerational stories, with young people exploring how the lives of their ancestors have shaped who they are today.

Working with photography students from Bradford College, New Focus have received mentoring to create studio portraits, as well as photographing heirloom objects central to their family histories.
