Budding filmmakers are needed to document life in quarantine for a new competition category at the Marbella Film Festival.

Organised by the Marbella Film Festival, the project aims to bring some relief from the boredom of the lockdown while documenting these unusual times.

The free competition is open to anyone and the winner will be invited to collect their award at the film festival next October.

The winning film will also be screened at the Teatro Goya alongside big budget movies getting their red carpet premieres at the festival.

Mac Chakaveh, the director of the annual Marbella International Film Festival (MIFF), told SUR in English that he expected hundreds of people to enter the competition.

He said: "It's going to give people something to do while they are hanging around the house with their family. It's all free and all the films will go on our web page, so it should be fun and interesting.

"But it will also be a good record of these unusual times. It's a global idea and it will be nice to see how different people around the world are coping with this."

Mac added that the film can be made individually or with the help of others who are in quarantine.

The film can be on any subject matter or genre, using cameras, or mobile phones, or computer generated animation.

He added that the film can be in any language but must have a running time of between 2 to 5 minutes.

Submissions will be previewed and shortlisted before appearing on the MIFF site for public viewing.

The winner will then be invited to the awards ceremony in October and the gala night where they will collect the award for the best film.

A closing date is likely to be announced once quarantine is over.
