The Festival of Christmas Traditions will be the first in a series of festive activities scheduled to take place in Benalmádena in the lead-up to Christmas. Organised by the foreign residents' department and various local expat associations, the festival will be held in Plaza Mezquita in Arroyo de la Miel between Friday 13 and Sunday 15 December.

INFORMATION

  • When. Friday 13 - Sunday 15 December.

  • Where. Plaza Mezquita. Arroyo de la Miel.

  • Festival. Christmas products, shows and gastronomy from 15 countries.

This popular festival presents unique Christmas experiences, typical products, shows and gastronomy from 15 countries, including Germany, France, Argentina, Ukraine, Mexico, USA, Italy and the UK. Visitors will be invited to sample a variety of traditional festive food and drinks, from the customary mulled wine and mince pies to more exotic cuisine, like Allahabadi cake, traditionally eaten by Indian Christians during Yuletide.

The festival will begin with a presentation parade of all the countries and associations involved, followed by live music and dance shows on the main stage. These will include Bollywood dance, African ballet, Argentinian tango and various performances by local choral societies.

Several British organisations will also participate, including the popular Banana Studios, which will present an energetic display of song and dance from the 1970s until present day.

The Welsh Society will be serving typical Gaelic gastronomy and offering a choral performance in order to raise funds for a British expat who is suffering from motor neurone disease. The Welsh Society uses the event to raise money for local causes and this year they have chosen to support Della Hall, a mother-of-two who has suffered with the muscular weakness disorder for almost three years.

The festive gathering will offer plenty of activities to keep children occupied and these will include a bouncy castle, face painting and festive games and competitions; while Father Christmas, the Slavic Santa Ded Moroz, and the Three Kings will make appearances throughout the day.

The festival, which is free, begins at 1pm each day.
