The Albéniz cinema in Malaga will be one of a limited number of Spanish cinemas to premiere Martin Scorsese's highly anticipated The Irishman.
A Netflix production, The Irishman received rave reviews after its pre-release at the New York film festival. Its release on the American streaming service is scheduled for 27 November; however, like Alfonso Cuarón's Roma, it will first be released on a small scale in cinemas.
The first screening of the film in Malaga (in original version with Spanish subtitles) will take place at the Albéniz on 15 November. Its release coincides with the celebration of the Fancine film festival at the cinema.
With a star-studded lineup, the film tells the story of Frank Sheeran (Robert De Niro), a World War Two veteran and mob hitman, and his involvement in the disappearance of legendary union leaeder Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino).
Adapted for film from Charles Brandt's book I Heard You Paint Houses, the film has been described as Scorsese's most impressive work since Goodfellas (1990). It is widely seen as representing Netflix's best chance of winning accolades at the next Oscars.
