Tartan has come to Teba, as the town's annual Scottish Douglas Days Festival is already under way. From now until 25 August, Teba expects to welcome up to 8,000 visitors, excited to revel in the 15th year of festivities.

Legendary Sir James Douglas takes to the spotlight throughout the duration of the festival, as visitors recall the Scottish knight's quest to take the embalmed heart of King Robert the Bruce to the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem almost 700 years ago. It was not meant to be, and Black Douglas, as he is now revered, succumbed to wounds suffered at Teba castle in a valiant battle between the Christian army of King Alfonso XI of Castile and the Moors.

Teba commemorates this heroic tale with an equally epic programme of events. The celebrations got off to a stimulating start, as last night's festival-goers were treated to a screening of Outlaw King, followed by a thought-provoking discussion. From today (Friday) until 25 August, visitors will be whisked away on a trip back in time, and neither the medieval market or adrenaline fuelled jousting tournaments for children will be attractions to miss.

Both Scottish and Moorish gastronomy stalls will whet the appetite, and Celtic music performances showcasing the talent of the Turas Ceilidh Band, Los Rodríguez Celtic Band and others are set to be crowd-pleasers. A special mention goes to collaborators The Strathleven Artisans, who, once again, have travelled all the way from Scotland just to attend.
