The Wonder Gay Festival, an event (along with Torremolinos Pride) that is positioning the town as one of the most important LGBT destinations in Spain after Barcelona and Madrid, will take place from Monday 22 until Sunday 28 July and presents a week of gay themed beach and pool parties, drag shows and musical events that take place at different locations in the town centre and on the Bajondillo Beach.

The week-long festival will close with a concert by Soraya Naoyin, the vocalist and composer from Barcelona who closed last year's Gay Pride festival in London.

Events will be held in several of the town's gay-bars, including Parthenon, The Aqua Club and Centuryon, while daytime festivities will include a pool party in the Hotel Ritual, and performances by internationally renowned guest DJs in the Eden Beach Bar, one of Torremolinos' most popular gay hot spots.

The festival starts in the Parthenon night club on Monday 22 July with a special inauguration party hosted by the outrageous drag queen, La Prohibida. Entrance to the party, which starts at 10pm, is free. Other free events include a cocktail party hosted by the Ritual Hotel - the town's only exclusively gay hotel - on Tuesday afternoon; and the Eden Beach party, held on Friday between 7pm and 10pm.

The main attractions of the festival take place on Saturday, when revellers can enjoy the afternoon Wonder Beach Party in Bajondillo, after which the fun will continue at the Palladium night club, which will host the Matrix Party.

This spectacular show will feature 15 dancers and music presented by celebrated DJs, including Madrileño Sergio Tyler. The show starts at 1am and continues until 7am.

The festival will wind down on Sunday afternoon with the Closing Beach Party, held in the Eden Beach Bar, followed by the Scandal Party held in the Aqua Club from midnight.

Last year's festival attracted thousands of people from all over Spain and organisers are predicting that this year's event will surpass all previous editions.

Ticket for the main events cost between 10 and 20 euros and can be purchased in advance from or on the day of the event. A wristband that allows entry to all parties costs 55 euros.
