The Picasso Museum in Malaga will host the fourth edition of the Flamenco EÑE Festival from Thursday 27 until Saturday 29 June. Organised by the SGAE Foundation, with the collaboration of the Picasso Museum, the festival aims to promote the cultural importance of the art of flamenco - declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010.

CONCERTS

  • Thursday 27 June. Rancapino Chico/Hermanas Bautista (7pm). Diego Morao/ Israel Fernández. (10.30pm).

  • Friday 28 June. Lela Soto/Rafael Riqueni (7pm). Pepe Luis Carmona Habichuela / Diego Carrasco (10.30pm).

  • Saturday 29 June. La Fabi/José del Tomate (7pm). Ana Crismán/La Negra (10.30pm).

The three day festival will present two performances each night and some of Andalucía's most formidable artistes will deliver a mixture of orthodox flamenco song and dance styles, together with the modern trend of fusing the predominantly Gypsy art with jazz and other world music.

The festival will begin on Thursday at 7pm, when Rancapino Chico will present his debut album, Por Mi Amor Al Arte. This young singer is the son of Rancapino - one of the last surviving old-school singers - and he will deliver a collection of the purest styles of flamenco associated with Cadiz, his birth place and one of the cradles of flamenco song.

Other renowned performers include guitarist Diego Morao, from the mighty clan of Los Moraos in Jerez de la Frontera; and singer Pepe Luis Carmona, who comes from a long line of guitarists known as Los Habichuela.

One of the highlights of the festival will be the performance of Diego Carrasco. Born in Jerez de la Frontera in 1954, the singer, guitarist and composer has been a pioneer in flamenco fusion and he has worked with both Spanish and world-renowned musicians. He is a fiestero, someone who entertains with all three elements of flamenco, and his show will certainly be full of all the energy and time-worn tradition of Jerez de la Frontera. Each performance will be preceded by a showcase given by a collection of knowledgeable authors and flamenco aficionados.

Tickets cost six euros each and are available online (tickets.museopicassomalaga.org) or from the museum ticket office.
