Torremolinos. Representatives from 18 countries will participate in the Foreign Residents Day festival in Torremolinos next Saturday, 6 and Sunday, 7 April. This year will be the 25th edition of the multicultural festival, which will promote the cultural traditions of the different nationalities in the town.
The festival will be held in Plaza La Nogalera and will offer examples of the diverse gastronomy of South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. A small street market will be installed in the square, where visitors can browse among the many stalls offering aromatic spices and perfumes, traditional clothing, handmade jewellery and crafts. Several local associations and organisations will also be represented, including Cudeca, the Royal British Legion and La Cala Lions Club.
The festival will begin with the colourful parade of the participating countries at 12pm on Saturday. Live performances of different world music, including flamenco, Argentinian tango, calypso and jazz, will take place throughout the day until 11.30pm. The festival continues on Sunday from midday until 5.30pm.
The event is an ideal opportunity to experience the cultural diversity of the town's cosmopolitan backcloth.
More than 13,000 foreigners from 120 different countries live in Torremolinos and represent approximately one fifth of the total population.
