Torremolinos is preparing for the first edition of the Ruta del Arte, an open air art festival that will take place in the centre of the town on Saturday (tomorrow). The 'art route', which is organised by the town hall, will promote the works of local artists, which will be displayed in different parts of the town.
There will also be exhibitions in the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Cultural Centre and several restaurants, including Bodegas Guerola, Loft del Mar and El Gran Vino, and these can be viewed until 5 January. Participating restaurants will offer a special discount for those taking part in the route.
The event will incorporate an Instagram project that will invite people to upload photographs of artwork they have admired.
Along with the exhibitions, the Calle San Miguel and Plaza de La Nogalera will become workshops for numerous art students from the Universidad Popular de Torremolinos. Visitors will be able to watch the artists at work and they will have the opportunity to purchase a painting or drawing directly from its creator.
The Plaza de Andalucía will become a large gallery where art lovers can simply admire the exhibition, or purchase a keepsake from the artisan street market.
The event begins at 10am and continues until 7pm.
