Kenny Garrett and Claire Martin top the billing at Atarfe jazz festival

  • The Granada town of Atarfe hosts the seventeenth Festival de Jazz en el Lago this weekend

Grammy-winning American saxophonist, Kenny Garrett, and British swing singer, Claire Martin, with her quartet and swing band The Jump Club, are the international names performing at Atarfe's seventeenth Festival de Jazz en el Lago this weekend.

The event starts on Friday 6 July at 10.30pm with Kenny Garrett, followed by the Swing Jump Band at 12.15am. The Claire Martin Quartet will perform at 10.30pm on Saturday, followed by Sergio Pamies at 12.15am.

All concerts will take place in the area around the Ermita de Los Tres Juanes in Atarfe, which is situated almost 1,000 metres above sea level in the Granada mountains.

Kenny Garrett has a career spanning three decades and has played with some of the biggest names in jazz, including Duke Ellington and Miles Davis.

Claire Martin has won the British Jazz Awards seven times and is also copresenter of Jazz Line-Up on BBC Radio Three.

The Jump Band are based in Granada and made up of members of different nationalities. Their repertoire, which features swing and jazz, includes numbers by some of the greats such as Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington.

Sergio Pamies was born in Granada in 1983. He is influenced by traditional jazz and flamenco and his music fused both styles to produce three albums.

Tickets for Friday cost 14 euros while on Saturday they are 10 euros. Tickets for both days can be purchased for 20 euros.
