The 59th Nerja Caves International Festival of Music and Dance will get under way on Saturday 16 June with a performance by African-American soprano and jazz musician, Barbara Hendricks, inside the cave itself.
Hendricks was born in 1948 in Arkansas, USA and has lived in Europe since 1977. She will be performing with her Trio, the Road to Freedom, along with Matthias Algotsson on the piano and Ulf Englund, on guitar.
There will also be a piano recital by classical pianist, Javier Perianes (Nerva, Spain, 1978) on Thursday 19 July in the cave. He will play pieces by Debussy and Manuel Falla.
The outdoor stage will host the flamenco group Compañía Flamenca de Manuel Liñán who will perform the show 'Nómada' on 29 June. Paquito D'Rivera, Cuban-born American saxophonist, clarinetist and composer, will be performing his show 'Setenta años de música mágica' with the Pepe Rivero Trío on 13 July.
The Malaga Symphony Orchestra will be performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto Nº 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73. and Dvorak's Symphony Nº 9 'The New World' in the Plaza de España in Nerja town centre on Thursday 5 July.
It is advisable to book early as performances sell out quickly.
