The centre of Torremolinos will resonate with live music during the sixth edition of the popular Ruta del Rock, which begins today.
More than 40 bands and musicians of differing genres will perform a series of concerts in 47 of the town's bars, restaurants and hotels over two consecutive weekends.
Organised by the cultural department of the town hall and the Friends of Jammin Cultural Association Torremolinos, the festival will be held from Friday 11 until Sunday 13 May. The second instalment will begin on Friday 18 and continue until Sunday 20 May.
Friday and Saturday's performances will run from 7pm to 11pm, while Sunday's concerts will be held between 5pm and 9pm. The concert times will be staggered so that live music fans can visit each establishment on the route, and vote for their favourite band and venue.
The twice-yearly music festival has gained momentum since it began in 2015 and this edition will present more bands than ever before. The festival gives bars and restaurants a chance to promote live music without the usual shackles of the entertainment laws. Bar owners can opt for the concerts to be held inside their establishments, or alfresco on their terraces. The town hall will provide a small stage for those hosting outdoor shows.
A wide variety of musical genres will be represented, including soul, funk, reggae, jazz, pop, rock and flamenco. The festival will present some of the coast's top bands and musicians, including 80s cover band, The Money Makers; rockabilly Burt Blackmont and the Bucks; and Malaga's funk masters, the Free Soul Band.
There will also be an Elvis tribute by Stelvis, flamenco supplied by the Cuadro Flamenco del Tato and trench-town rock from the Urbunto Reggae Band. Other acts include the Bud Spencer Band, Tumbling Gang, The Radions and the Yohan Diz Band.
Among the venues participating in the festival are MG Jamón, Bar Amsterdam, Restaurante Colonia, Cervecería Twister, Branigans Pub, La Gamba Alegre, Peggy Sue's and Pepe López.
Although the majority of venues are located in the centre of Torremolinos, concerts will also take place in Playamar, Bajondillo, La Carihuela and Montemar.
