Benalmádena is gearing up for the 12th edition of the Feria de Plantas de Coleccíon (rare plant fair) which will be held in La Paloma Park during Easter Week.

INFORMATION

  • What. Rare plant fair.

  • Where. La Paloma Park.

  • When. Friday 30 March until Sunday 1 April.

The show focuses on the promotion of little-known plants.

The event attracts serious collectors and also keen amateur horticulturalists looking for ways of making their gardens more attractive.

More than 40 local and national horticultural specialists will participate in the fair, which will include tropical and subtropical plants, cacti and succulents of varying shapes and sizes, striking orchid displays and rare bonsai trees.

In addition, there will be stands offering aromatic medicinal herbs, bulbs, seeds and fertilisers, as well as information, advice and tips concerning the cultivation and care of exotic plants.

The fair, which is organised by the parks and gardens department of Benalmádena town hall, was created for amateur and professional gardeners to meet in a friendly and relaxed environment. Given the success of last year's edition, hundreds of visitors are expected to attend the event this year.

The main objective of the fair is to encourage visiting tourists and locals to enjoy the park and its many facilities. La Paloma Park currently houses a permanent collection of over 90 species of palm trees and one of the best collections of bamboo and succulents in Europe.

The 100, 000-square-metre park is also home to dozens of species of wildlife, including peacocks, ducks, swans, ostriches, turtles, rabbits and mountain goats.

Entry to the rare plant show, which begins at 5pm on Good Friday and continues until Sunday 1 April, is free.
