The Gibraltar Philharmonic Society is holding a recital with bassoonist Guilhaume Santana and pianist Pauline Berdat on Wednesday 7 March at 8pm in the Convent Ballroom. The concert is sponsored by Parasol Foundation.
Santana, a French-Chilean musician, studied at the Music University in Hannover, Germany, and was a member of the Berlin Karajan Academy. He also joined the prestigious Lucerne Festival Orchestra and the Orchestra Mozart in Italy. In 2007 he was appointed principal bassoonist by the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, and has played with many major orchestras.
Pianist Pauline Berdat studied at the Conservatory of Music in Strasbourg, France. She worked with Swedish pianist Inger Soedergren and continued her studies at Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany.
She has been involved in many chamber music projects and regularly plays for the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra.
The programme will feature pieces for bassoon and piano by composers W. Hurlstone, E. Elgar, J. Waterson, M. Ravel, G. Pierné, N. Rota and A. Piazzola.
