The thirty-third Andrés Segovia International Guitar Competition will be taking place at the civic centre in La Herradura from 23 to 27 January.
The competition established in 1985 in memory of the late Andrés Segovia, one of Spain's greatest Spanish guitar players, who had a holiday home in La Herradura.
This year's competition marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Italian composer, Mario Castelnuevo-Tedesco (1895-1968) and contestants will be requested to play two of his pieces during the competition.
Contestants must be under the age of 35 and will undergo three rounds, all of which are open to the public.
The first round will comprise a 15-minute repertoire of pieces selected by the contestant.
In round two, contestants will be asked to perform a repertoire of 20 minutes, which must include 'Capriccio Diabolico (Homenaje a Paganini), Op. 85a (1935)' by Castelnuovo-Tedesco and those selected to go through to the final, which will take place on Saturday 27 January, will be required to perform 'Concierto para guitarra y orquesta nº1 Op. 99 (1939)', also by Castelnuovo-Tedesco.
The winner of the competition will be awarded a 10,000-euro cheque along with a guitar made by the Spanish luthier, Aarón García Ruiz.
They will also get the chance to perform at the Festival International de Música y Danza in Ubeda later this year.
