Art lovers should make a note in their diaries: the picturesque village of Jimena de la Frontera, in Cadiz province, is holding its annual Open Studios event from 20 to 27 October.

DETAILS

  • When 20 to 27 October.

  • Where Jimena de la Frontera. The collective exhibition is in 'El Silo' building.

  • Entry Free of charge.

Just over half an hour's drive inland from Gibraltar, on the road leading up to Ronda from Algeciras, Jimena is home to a number of artists of different nationalities, who are joining together later this month in what promises to be a fascinating display of their talents.

The week-long Open Studios event starts on the evening of Friday 20 October with the inauguration of the Collective Exhibition in the building known as 'El Silo', at the main entrance to the village. This official inauguration takes place at 8pm. There is parking nearby, for those travelling by car.

The Collective Exhibition will then be open from 11am to 2pm and from 6pm to 9pm on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd, and from 6 till 9pm for the rest of the week.

During the week, visitors can also tour the studios of the various artists who are taking part, which are often in their homes, to view their other creations.

A map is being produced to show where the different studios are located, for those who are not familiar with the venues.

A word of advice to those who don't know Jimena de la Frontera: this lovely village is on a hill and many of the streets are cobbled, so it is advisable to wear flat, comfortable shoes when touring the artists' studios.
