Torremolinos is gearing up for second edition of the Funky Town Festival, a music festival that will present disco and funk music of the 1970s, 80s and 90s.

The lineup of artists includes local musician, Javier Ojeda, leader of Spanish pop sensation, Danza Invisible. Several Malaga based artists will also appear at the concert, including Little Pepe, Irene Lombard, Suzette Moncrief, Julia Martin, and the Malaga Funk Allstars. DJ Funkdango will keep the rhythms pounding in between acts with his classic disco mixes.

Nightclub hits made famous by some of the eras most classic musicians, as well as dazzling costumes and dance routines, will recreate the magical ambience of the funky disco music era.

Last years Funky Town Festival attracted almost 2,000 people, many of whom came to see 70s disco star, George McCrae.

Topping the bill this year is Pino DAngio, an Italian disco singer best known for his 1980 hit song, Ma Quale Idea, which sold over 2 million copies in Europe.

DAngio has released more than a dozen CDs since the 1980s.

Shirley Davis and The Silverbacks will get the festival going and they will be joined by a gospel choir and the Chris Evolution Dance Group.

Shirley Davis is one of the most respected musicians on the Spanish soul scene and she will be performing songs from her latest CD, Black Rose.

Javier Ojeda, the brains behind the event, said, The Funky Town Festival was born with a special enthusiasm to return Torremolinos to the era of the nightclubs.

Torremolinos was a pioneer of the disco-funk music scene in Spain during the 1970s and 80s, and Ojeda is certain that some of this magic will return during the festival.

The festival, which is part of Torremolinos town halls summer programme, will be held in the Plaza La Nogalera on Saturday 8 July. The show starts at 8pm and entrance is free.
