The centre of Torremolinos will become a huge stage this weekend, when the town hosts the fourth edition of the Ruta del Rock; a live music festival with more than 60 concerts taking place in 36 bars and restaurants in the town.

The half-hourly shows will be staggered, taking place between 5 pm and 10pm, to allow people time to visit each bar on the route.

The festival is organised by Torremolinos town hall, and the participating bars have the opportunity to present the gigs inside their venue, or outside on the terrace. The music is not limited to rock; the festival will present a varied scope of music including reggae, soul, blues and folk music.

The majority of the gigs will be held in the centre of the town at venues including the Vanilla Café, Branigans Pub, The Galloping Major, Garfield’s and Bar Amsterdam.

Other venues include La Langosta and El Horno Beach Club, both in La Carihuela, and the Pink Elephant in Montemar.

The event began last weekend and will resume on Friday and continue until Sunday 28 May.

Some of the area’s top musicians will take part in the festival, including TNT, a local rock band that performs a tribute to heavy metal icons, ACDC.

The Coovers, an Oasis and Coldplay cover band, and The Silver Beats, Malaga’s most popular Beatles tribute, will also perform.

The audience can vote for their favorite bar and band and their nominations will be entered in a prize draw that will be announced shortly after the festival.

A full list of participating bars and bands is available from the culture office in Plaza Andalucía as well as on the town hall’s website.
