Alhaurín el grande. A natural soap making workshop, organised by Essía Organic Body Care, will be held in Alhaurín el Grande on Saturday, 6 May.
The workshop will demonstrate the art of making handcrafted soap using natural ingredients such as olive, coconut and almond oil, and different types of beneficial herbs.
The five-hour workshop will also cover subjects such as the history of soap and the safety aspects of using base products like sodium hydroxide, a strong irritant that is corrosive to the skin.
There will also be demonstrations of formulating soap recipes as well as classes in the healing properties of essential oils and herbs.
The amount of people adopting a more healthy and natural lifestyle today is increasing and many are becoming more aware of what they are putting in and on their bodies.
Commercial cosmetics and soaps contain large amounts of chemicals such as parabens and synthetic fragrances and these chemicals are rapidly absorbed into our skin.
Parabens, a class of widely-used preservatives in cosmetic products, have raised concerns about hormone disruptors, which can cause cancerous tumours, and this has led consumers and companies to search for paraben-free alternatives.
The workshop, which will be held in the Casa de Laila, Camino Ardalejos, 7, Alhaurín El Grande, will begin at 10am and continue until 3pm.
Participants will be presented with two of the soaps they have made, as well as an information booklet to enable them to continue experimenting at home.
A fee of 47.50€ will be charged and this will include a vegetarian lunch with herbal tea.
