The Comares Eco Market will open for the first time this Sunday, with a Spring Fiesta, at El Camping bar, Mirador de La Axarquía, and will take place on the first Sunday of every month except July and August.
The inaugural event will end with a concert from local reggae/ska band, Mentally Ska'd, from 1.30pm onwards.
Rachel Saunders, who is behind the Comares as well as the already well-established La Viñuela eco market says: "The aim behind the market is to provide a place for local organic producers and crafts people to sell their products directly to the public."
A total of 16 stalls selling fruit and vegetables, bread, cheeses, olive oil, jams and marmalades, flours and other organic staples, cakes, pies and pasties, plants, handmade baby clothes, and handcrafted silver jewellery will be on offer.
Rachel expects the number of stalls to grow over the coming months and says that potential market stall holders are still signing up.
Rachel started The Organic Market in La Viñuela in December 2015 with the collaboration of Maria Lavao, owner of the Viveros El Algarrobo garden centre on the A356 on the way to La Viñuela, where it is held every Saturday from 10am until 2pm.
Based on the ongoing success of the market, she felt that a similar enterprise would work in Comares.
