  • Several towns hold winter celebrations in honour of this saint

The Fiesta de San Sebastián, known as the 'patron saint of winter', is celebrated on the anniversary of the saint's death, 20 January and as patron saint of Cómpeta, Algarrobo and Alhaurin de la Torre, the towns hosting a number of events.

In Algarrobo, the celebrations start on Friday 13 January, with Mass at the Ermita de Algarrobo, after which the figure of the saint will be carried through the streets to the Santa Ana church, accompanied by the town's marching band. Celebrations continue on Sunday 15th with wine tastings and concerts and on Friday 20th with church services and other activities.

In Cómpeta on Saturday 21st, there will be an open air concert in the Arroyo Lara park, starting at 10pm and on Sunday 22nd a procession will take place through the streets. The patron saint will be taken from the town's shrine and carried to the church on Plaza del Pantaleón Romero. This will be followed by Mass, after which visitors will be able to join residents in eating migas (a typical dish of fried bread crumbs, garlic and oil) with Cómpeta wine.

San Sebastián is also the patron saint of Alhaurín de la Torre and celebrations will take place from Friday 20th until Sunday 22nd, with church services, tastings of local food and activities.

The town of Faraján near Juzcár also celebrates its patron saint with music and children's activities, which take place mainly in the Plaza de Andalucía.
