Professional mountain bike rider Natalia Fischer, who was proclaimed European Cross Country Marathon (XCM) champion earlier this year, has now climbed to the top of the national podium in this same category. The success adds yet another title to her professional career.

Fischer, of Estepona, won the title in the town of Lalín (Pontevedra, Galicia), where she faced a route of 80 kilometres and more than 2,400 metres of accumulated gradient.

This is her third Spanish XCM title, after those obtained in 2017 and 2018 (in 2019 she was second and in 2020 the competition was not held due to the pandemic).

"It was a very tough race, very demanding, but I had been training at altitude in Sierra Nevada all summer and I was prepared. I kept the lead in the race all the time, with quite a big difference between me and the second rider," said the Malaga-born competitor.

Altitude

Very satisfied with her performance after long months of training at altitude, Fischer thinks that she can still give more of herself in this demanding season. And this month, she faces a dizzying schedule.

"This month is full of competitions. This weekend I'm riding in the rally World Cup in Switzerland, then the next competition is in Andorra, then Huesca, then Gerona and then the Marathon World Championship, which I'll go to with the national team," she said.

This international sportswoman is certainly stronger than ever, and ready to dazzle globally.

"The World Cup will be the perfect end to the season. I hope it turns out well after all the hard work I'm putting into these competitions and training hard all summer for this," she added.
