It has been a year and eight months since the former Malaga CF football player Sergio Contreras Pardo, better known as Koke, was arrested in Estepona during a huge police operation against drug trafficking. Since then the footballer has been behind bars in prison, from where he has just been released after posting a bail of 15,000 euros.

The former Blue & Whites player has been awaiting trial since the end of November 2019 when he was arrested by members of the Guardia Civil’s Organised Crime and Anti-Drug Team (Edoa). A total of 30 people were detained during the police operation including Koke's girlfriend and one of the former player’s brothers.

Koke, who was arrested at his home in Estepona, is alleged by the Guardia Civil investigators, to be the leader of the criminal organisation, a gang that specialised in the trafficking of marijuana to other European countries.

During the raids, at the end of November 2019, police made arrests and searches in various parts of the Andalusian region as part of a large-scale operation, which involved 150 officers from Malaga, Granada and Seville, as well as the elite Rapid Action Group.
