Malaga-born golfer Ana Peláez has won the fifth team trophy of her fledgling career after winning the Moon Golf Invitational tournament in Florida from 14 to 16 February with the University of South Carolina.
The competition, which teed off the university's golfing season, is one of the most prestigious in women's amateur golf in the United States. Peláez, now going into her final year on the American college circuit, impressed once more, finishing on 208 strokes. This score left her eight under par and, individually speaking, joint-third. Her five under par performance on the second day was particularly important in guiding her team to victory.
This victory has implications for the players' amateur world rankings, where Peláez now lies in 23rd place. All going well, she hopes to turn professional this summer, after her final university season ends.
For now, next up for Peláez and South Carolina is the Gamecock Intercollegiate tournament hosted by the University, which begins on 1 March.
