Marbella ended a run of four straight league defeats with a 3-1 victory away to fellow strugglers Recreativo de Huelva on Sunday afternoon.
The visitors started well and their early dominance paid off when Alfred scored in the 14th minute after Chumbi’s initial effort was saved.
However, the side from Huelva grew into the game and were given a chance to equalise after the half-hour mark when the referee controversially judged Eliseu to have used his hand in the box. Alberto Quiles stepped up to convert the resulting penalty and to restore parity.
Into the second half, the hosts had more possession but were unable to trouble the Marbella goal. For both sides, set pieces seemed to be the best opportunity to break the deadlock, and Marbella did just that in the 66th minute when Chumbi struck home from a corner.
Marbella then pressed for a third goal to kill the game, and were rewarded four minutes from time, with Chumbi once again involved. He played a cross on the right-hand side that found Callejón unmarked in the box. His scuffed effort was enough to fool the goalkeeper and put the seal on a confidence-boosting win for Marbella as they continue their push into the top six to avoid a potential double relegation.
