  • The Costa side have now completed a double over Tenerife-based Marino this season

Goals from Chumbi, Callejón and a Tresaco penalty helped Marbella to their first away win of the season, securing a 3-0 victory against bottom club Marino on Saturday afternoon.

The Costa side travelled to Tenerife and soon found their rhythm but were unable to make their early dominance pay due to a lack of cutting edge in attacking areas. This changed in the 28th minute as Esteban Granero’s pinpoint cross was headed home by new signing Chumbi to give Marbella the lead.

The goal provoked a reaction from Marino, but this proved to be short-lived as Al Moukhtar lost the ball to Callejón in the midfield, who duly went on a run and accurately finished to double Marbella’s advantage.

Things could have got even better for the visitors, but a header from Callejón was chalked off as Chumbi was controversially judged to have been offside in the build-up.

In the second half, Marino sought to get back in the game, but things quickly went from bad to worse, as Niki received a second yellow card for a foul on Alfonso Herrero.

Now playing against ten men, Marbella wrapped things up with a 71st minute penalty. Rafa Tresaco was brought down by Saavedra just inside the box, and the same man converted the resulting spot kick.

Had it not been for a couple of good saves from Marino goalkeeper Kikvidze, the margin of victory perhaps could have been bigger.

The result sees Marbella complete a double over Marino this season, having won 5-1 in the corresponding fixture.
