Spanish badminton player Carolina Marín won the Thailand Open, the first Super 1000 of the season, after surprising world number one Tai Tzu-ying (21-9, 21-16) in the final of the tournament in Bangkok on Sunday.
Marín, who is from Huelva, has got her year off to the best possible start, not dropping a set throughout the whole tournament, picking up her first title since 2019.
The reigning Olympic champion, triple world champion and four-time European champion is showing signs that she has fully recovered from the serious knee injury which kept her off the court for eight months.
