Monday proved to be another historic day for CD Rincón who, having qualified for the first knockout round of the Copa del Rey, were paired with La Liga opposition in the tensely anticipated draw carried out at La Cartuja stadium in Seville.
The minnows from the Axarquía, who compete in Group 2A of the División de Honor (the fifth tier of Spanish football), will host Deportivo Alavés - Copa finalists in 2017 and UEFA Cup runners-up in 2001.
Players and staff gathered at a bar in Rincón de la Victoria to watch the draw live and were clearly delighted by their future opponents. "I still hold out a little hope that there can be fans for the game so we can have a real party then," said the club's president Francisco Jiménez.
The draw was somewhat bittersweet, however. It was the club's understanding that they would be drawn against a team from Andalucía, but they were informed at the last minute that that wouldn't be the case.
The venue for this historic game has not yet been decided, with the club harbouring hopes of being able to play the game at either La Rosaleda or the Ciudad de Málaga athletics stadium.
Malaga and Marbella
Malaga's opponents were the next to be drawn. The Blue and Whites will travel to Vigo to play against Segunda B side Coruxo for the first time in their history. Sergio Pellicer's team will be looking to go further than the first round for the first time since the 2015-16 season, having suffered numerous upsets against lower-league opposition in recent years.
The last team out of the hat was Marbella. They will play at home against fellow Segunda B team Lleida.
All first round clashes will be one-off games played on Wednesday 16 December.
