After nine long months of no competitive action, Malaga's women's team returned in the best way possible with a 4-1 win over Juan Grande in front of more than 200 delighted fans in Cártama on Sunday.

This was the first game in which Nati Gutiérrez sat in the dugout since taking over as head coach, the first woman to do so, and it will have given her optimism that a push for promotion this year is a possibility.

María Ruiz opened the scoring with a volley in the 12th minute before a Naza Revelo penalty leveled the scores in the 38th minute. The hosts, however, had the advantage again just before half time when debutant Gabi's measured shot crept in at the far post.

After the restart, the third didn't take long to arrive, with Claudia Jiménez chipping the keeper to extend her side's lead.

The icing on the cake came three minutes from the end when María Ruiz sealed her brace with an effort from the edge of the box.
