Malaga fans can sleep a little easier this week as massive progress towards balancing the books and avoiding an administrative relegation was made.

On Monday midfielder Keidi Bare completed his long-mooted move to Segunda rivals Espanyol, signing for a fee close to two million euros, but rising by a further million should certain individual and team objectives be achieved. Malaga will also retain ownership of a percentage of the player so would benefit financially when he makes his next move.

The Albania international, 23, has played 48 times for the Blue and Whites, becoming a key player in their two seasons since being relegated to Segunda.

Another player to leave this week is academy star Iván Jaime. The 19-year-old has signed for Portuguese first-division side Famalicão. While the loss of the attacking midfielder won't be felt as much (he has made only seven first-team appearances), to lose a home-grown player comes as a big disappointment among the fan base.

That said, with these transfer fees coming in, plus the removal of high earners Adrián, Munir, Juankar and Cifu from the wage bill, as well as positive progress made on the ERE mass redundancy plan which is expected to imminently result in further departures, the club is very close to balancing the books and meeting La Liga's wage cap limitations in time for the end of the transfer window on 5 October.

That's not to say no new faces won't be arriving, though. It is believed that sporting director Manolo Gaspar would like to bring in at least three new players (as well as re-signing Luis Muñoz). A goalkeeper to compete with Dani Barrio, another centre-back to allow Alberto Escassi to play in midfield and an attacker who can play both wide and through the middle are high on the list of priorities.
