As expected, Nati Gutiérrez was named head coach of Malaga's women's team on Tuesday, the first woman to take the role, after the club failed to tie down José Herrera to a new deal.
Club legend Gutiérrez acted as Herrera's assistant during the last season, a position in which she focused strongly on the development of younger players. The club is yet to decide whether this will remain part of her role.
Gutiérrez is well known around the club having formed part of Atlético Málaga's treble-winning squad in 1998.
She will be tasked with heading a new-look team, with central defender Postigo departing after six years at the club, and midfielder Pamela moving to join Granada.
More outgoings are expected, leaving Gutiérrez with an interesting project ahead of the return of women's football next season.
