After his comments criticising vaccination for tennis players went viral, the Serbian caused further controversy by taking part in a sparring session with local player Carlos Gómez Herrera and publishing a video of it on social media.

Once the footage of the hour-long session started to spread, many pointed out that playing on a tennis court was not allowed until 11 May.

Management at the club later admitted that they had misinterpreted the rules and had made an error in opening up its facilities for the private session.

With tennis courts off-limits for the time being, Djokovic, who has been staying in La Zagaleta with his family since the start of the lockdown, chose to go for a run on the beach early on Thursday morning for his exercise instead.

Despite stopping to splash himself with water, he never entered the water which would have constituted another lockdown breach.
