A national tour with the best players in the country to make up for the lack of tournaments on the ATP tour. That is what the Real Federación Española de Tenis (RFET) is proposing for the summer months, with Spain's top professionals, including Alejandro Davidovich (97th, ATP), Rafa Nadal (2nd), Roberto Bautista (12th), Pablo Carreño (25th), Albert Ramos (41st), Fernando Verdasco (52nd), Pablo Andújar (53rd), Feliciano López (56th) and Roberto Carballés (99th) taking part.
The intention, which Davidovich's coach Jorge Aguirre mentioned in a recent newspaper interview, was confirmed in a videoconference with several Spanish tennis players from the winning Davis Cup team, such as Sergi Bruguera, Nadal, Feliciano López, Bautista and Marcel Granollers.
The RFET, with money in its coffers, has donated 600,000 euros for the initiative, which will also include women players on the WTA's Top 100 list.
We don't yet know when or where the tournaments will take place, but they will probably be on clay courts and with no spectators. The rights to the TV coverage will guarantee the income.
