Marbella goalkeeper Wilfred ensured that the group leaders didn't surrender pole position in their Segunda B group, saving a penalty to secure a 0-0 draw against title rivals Cartagena on Sunday.
In a dramatic tie at Estadio Cartagonova, the visitors enjoyed the majority of the chances, but equally could have left with nothing after a frantic finish.
The hosts started the game on the front foot but Marbella were soon able to settle into their rhythm and enjoyed long spells of possession, albeit far from Marc Martínez's goal.
Their first chance came after half an hour when Saúl García's strike was deflected wide. Three minutes later, Callejón's effort from inside the area was spectacularly parried away by the keeper. Manel then came clase with a header which the keeper was also equal to.
The best chance came in the 41st minute when Samu had the keeper beaten but his effort came back out off the post.
The woodwork was rattled again twice in the second half. The first effort came from Marbella's Esteban Granero, before Vinicius kneed the ball onto the crossbar from five yards out at the other end.
With half an hour to go, the hosts started to step on the gas and Wilfred started to show why he is so highly rated.
After denying Wiliam's left-footed effort in the 65th minute, he was given the chance to put his name in the headlines when Cayarga was upended in the area. With just five minutes to go, José Ángel stepped up and the keeper guessed the right way, not only keeping out the penalty, but pouncing on the ball to prevent a rebound.
"It wouldn't have been fair to lose to a penalty," said Marbella coach David Cubillo after the game. "But luckily we have a great goalkeeper."
Despite the big result, Marbella's lead at the top remains a slender one at just a single point.
