Marbella reached the 50-point mark with victory in Sanlúcar on Sunday afternoon, maintaining their one-point lead at the top of group IV of Segunda B.
Hosts Sanluqueño didn’t make it easy for the league leaders as they looked to take a positive result from the game right until the very end.
They created the first chance in the ninth minute through Quesada but keeper Wilfred stopped it with no great difficulty.
Wilfred’s opposite number, Isma Gil, however, was kept busy, cutting out two dangerous crosses from Saúl.
He could do nothing about the opening goal, though. The ball broke to Manel in the area in the 38th minute after a lucky ricochet and he duly tucked the ball away for his ninth of the season.
The hosts could have equalised two minutes later when Peter headed Madrigal’s cross from the left just wide of the post but they had to wait until the second half for the breakthrough.
It was from Antonio Jesús’ corner that José headed home the equaliser in the 61st minute, but that was almost undone moments later when Marbella’s Redru was controversially denied a penalty.
With the scores now level, the hosts’ determination grew. However, the Costa side’s greater quality was able to shine through. A phenomenal cross from Elías was headed home by Dani Pérez with 15 minutes still to go and Marbella were able to weather the late Sanluqueño storm, with Wilfred standing up to late tests from Güiza and Peter.
