There was disappointment earlier this week as Unicaja, Malaga's basketball team, failed to reach the Copa del Rey on merit after their 82-74 defeat to UCAM Murcia on Saturday.
Instead, they were in the draw, which took place at the Museo Picasso in Malaga on Monday, as hosts of the tournament which will take place at the Palacio de los Deportes in the city from 13 to 16 February.
Luck was on Unicaja's side as they were drawn against Casademont Zaragoza, this season's surprise package, on Friday 14 February, with the prize a semi-final clash against the winner of Iberostar Tenerife and Morabanc Andorra.
Unicaja will thus avoid any of the tournament's favourites until at least the final. On the other side of the draw are clashes between Barcelona and Valencia and Real Madrid and Bilbao Basket.
