  • Saturday's stalemate leaves David Cubillo's side in fourth place, with all three teams ahead of them winning and fifth-place Cordoba closing the gap

After four consecutive 2-1 victories at home, Marbella had to make do with a solitary point on Saturday after a disappointing 0-0 draw.

Their opponents Algeciras defended resolutely throughout, though the home side looked less likely to score as the match went on.

The visitors had the game’s first real chance, with Karim sent running through on goal, but Wilfred, playing his 400th professional game, denied him with a fine save.

Marbella soon went up the other end and tested Wilfred’s counterpart with a low shot from Paulo Vítor.

Both sides were working extremely hard, but soon began to tire, with the tempo of the game slowing somewhat.

This trend continued in a second half in which both keepers were largely spectators. Añón and Paulo Vítor were brought off for Manel and Mustafá, but neither could make the difference for David Cubillo’s side, despite a late chance for the latter, and the game finished scoreless.

Cubillo will be frustrated to have let two points slip against a side fighting for survival in the Segunda B, especially considering the three teams above Marbella all won this matchday.

The next opponent at the Antonio Lorenzo is Guijuelo. The side from Salamanca are Marbella’s Copa del Rey opponents on Tuesday, and given the fact that they are struggling in the Segunda B’s Group II, the Costa del Sol side will be expected, and expecting, to progress.
