Intensity and mutual respect characterised the first Malaga derby in elite rugby on Sunday as Marbella ran out 17-30 winners on their visit to Malaga.

More than a hundred spectators turned out at the University of Malaga's sports complex for the clash and were treated to an end-to-end first half in which the hosts edged it to go into the break with a four-point advantage (17-13).

However, the second half was a completely different story. Marbella showed the greater experience and organisational skills and after scoring two tried in the opening three minutes, also showed a defensive resolve that was impossible for Malaga to penetrate.

The match finished a resounding 17-30, securing Marbella's second win on the bounce, lifting them to fifth in the table on 10 points.
