  • The conditions were perfect at Cabopino for the final chance to qualify for the amateur tour's showpiece event

Excitement is brewing for the Costa del Golf Tour grand final. The competition, organised by SUR and its leading publication Costa del Golf, will culminate next weekend at Guadalmina golf club, following the fourth round of qualification last Sunday at Cabopino.

Cabopino golf course owes its name to the wide-canopy conifers that line its fairways and these, alongside the excellent conditions, meant that the around 100 competitors particularly enjoyed what was the last day of the competition before the grand final.

Sunday's round saw Antonio Jesús Alcaide Campos, Gabriel Isaías Fraile Gamboa, Ignacio Zurita Gadea, Pelayo Pérez Crespo, Pedro Ortiz Tome and Francisco Muñoz Montes play their way into the final in the first category. Francisco Borja Gutiérrez Sedeño, Per Arne Anderssen, Fernando Garnica Gómez, Ángel Fernández Molina, Federico Villanueva Jover and José Bernal de la Rosa qualified in the second category. On the women's side, the standard of play by Danielle Franchino Giraudet, Patricia V. Thiele Rico, Mercedes Sánchez Rovira and Monserrat San Francisco Quintana guaranteed their progress to compete for the top honours in what is fast becoming Andalucía's top amateur tournament.

Awards presentation

The intense day of golf on Sunday was followed by an awards ceremony. Cabopino manager, Eliat Pérez, and SUR's commercial director, Jorge Artero, whose responsibility it was to announce winners, were both present. Costa del Golf Tour collaborator, Grupo Da Bruno, organised a traditional feast in the Da Bruno Cabopino restaurant, where attendees could sample true Mediterranean gastronomy.
