Following its successful introduction to La Liga last season, VAR (video assistant referee) is coming to Spain's second tier this August.

In order to welcome this new innovation, preparations have been intensifying around La Rosaleda to ensure its correct functioning for when the season starts.

In order to achieve this, experts have been visiting the ground to check that the cameras in place sufficiently cover the action, as well as that the fibre optic technology allows for a steady uninterrupted video stream of the action.

Small adjustments will need to be carried out but there is no doubt that they will be completed before the start of the new season.

During this close season, referees set to oversee Segunda games are receiving training on how to use this new technology and tips on how to avoid the problems encountered during the first year of operation in the Spanish game.

Bosses overseeing refereeing described the roll-out year as having gone "very well" with decisions reduced to very "minor" ones. The VAR is called upon to settle uncertainties over offside and penalty calls.
