Spain were crowned champions of Europe for the fourth time by hammering France 86-66 in the EuroBasket Women final in Belgrade (Serbia) on Sunday.
Victory for Lucas Mondelo's side was never much in doubt as they dominated from the outset. They blew their rivals away in a pulsating opening period, taking a 32-21 lead into the second quarter. By half time it was 50-36.
Both teams scored 20 points in the third quarter before Spain extended their lead in the fourth to secure gold in style.
The result handed Spain their third EuroBasket triumph in the past four editions of the tournament, becoming the first side since 1991 (the Soviet Union) to win in consecutive years. For their part, defeat for France continued their disappointing run of silver medals in the past four finals.
