Malaga. Malaga's Genuine side, for players with intellectual disabilities, were given a hero's reception on Thursday last week after being crowned league champions.

Following refreshments in the VIP box at La Rosaleda, the team and the coaching staff were taken on an open-top bus to receive the adulation of the city on the way to a reception at the city hall. There, they were welcomed by mayor Francisco de la Torre, councillor for Culture and Sport, Noelia Losada, and regional minister for Education and Sport, Mercedes García Payne.

The players were then invited to the balcony where they received recognition from the dozens of fans who had gathered outside.

Now that the season is over, Malaga CF's only victorious team this year already have an eye on the make-up of the squad for next year with around 60 new candidates vying for a place in the team.
