  • The team from the provincial capital are champions of Andalucía for a fourth time but they cannot play at the Universidad Laboral field next season

Los Tiburones de Málaga, the baseball team that has dominated the Southern conference of the National League in recent years, have added yet another title to their honours list. At the weekend they won the regional championship again, beating second-placed Marbella Sun Devils 8-3 and 9-0. Los Tiburones have now won four Andalusian titles in the last five years.

But the celebration was bitter-sweet as the Andalusian Federation has told the team from Malaga that next season they won't be able to continue playing on their current field at the Universidad Laboral.

"It's a pity because more and more youngsters are getting involved but without somewhere to play, we can't do anything," Miguel Padrón, head of the club, told SUR on Sunday. "We need the authorities to provide us with a field, something we have been promised many times," he says.

The Malaga team will also have to seek funding to compete for promotion to the Division of Honor. The best teams from each conference will face off in Valencia from 3 to 6 October.
